Connect to your VPS with your own domain name (ssh user@yourdomain)
Entering a domain when you order a VPS does not register it or point it at the server by itself. Here is what happens, and the one DNS record that makes ssh user@yourdomain work.
When you order a VPS you can give the domain you want to use for it. That name is kept with the server, but the name only works once its DNS points to your server's IP address. Nothing about SSH itself needs configuring on the server: as soon as the name resolves to the IP, ssh user@yourdomain works.
If myPandos manages your domain's DNS
We create the record for you when the server is ready. Open your server page in the dashboard to confirm: no DNS card is shown when it is done.
If your domain's DNS is somewhere else
We cannot change DNS we do not manage. Your server page shows a DNS card with the exact record to add at your domain registrar or DNS provider, for example:
- Type: A
- Name: app.yourdomain.com (or the name you gave)
- Value: your server's IP address (shown on the card, with a copy button)
Once the record propagates (usually minutes, sometimes a few hours) you can connect with ssh [email protected]. Until then, ssh user@IP-address always works.
A free domain with my plan?
The free domain offer is a first-year credit on a new domain registered in the same order as a yearly plan. A domain you already own is not registered, transferred or refunded by that offer.
