Paid part-time position for a student with zero programming experience. Start with QA on a real production platform and grow into automated testing and code contributions. Remote, fits around school.
About the Role
This is a paid, part-time, entry-level position for a student with little or no programming experience who wants to find out, by doing, whether software is a path for them. You will work on our real production platform: customer dashboards, billing, domains, and cloud services used by paying customers every day.
Schedule: 4 hours/day during school breaks; 2 hours/week during term time. Location: Remote (own computer and reliable internet required).
You will not be thrown into writing production code on day one. You start with quality work: testing the product, reviewing translations, and reporting bugs. From there you grow, at your own pace, into writing automated tests and small code fixes, with every change reviewed by an experienced developer before it ships. Every task fits into a 2-hour session and can be finished in one sitting. It fits around school, not the other way around.
What You Will Do
From day one (no coding required):
- Test the customer dashboard like a real user: walk through pages in English, French, and Portuguese, on desktop and mobile, and report anything broken, confusing, or ugly.
- Write clear bug reports with screenshots and step-by-step instructions to reproduce the problem.
- Review French and Portuguese translations against the live product and fix awkward or incorrect wording.
- Triage error reports from our monitoring system: spot duplicates, recognise patterns, and flag what looks important.
As you grow (with guidance):
- Keep developer documentation up to date.
- Write automated tests for existing code, following patterns we show you.
- Turn your manual testing checklists into automated browser tests.
- Make small, reviewed fixes to the user interface, including bugs you found yourself.
What You Will Learn
- Git and GitHub: version control, branches, pull requests, and code review — the universal workflow of every software team.
- How web applications work: browser developer tools, network requests, cookies, error logs, and reading stack traces.
- TypeScript and JavaScript fundamentals: learned the right way — by reading real code first, then testing it, then changing it.
- Automated testing: unit tests and end-to-end browser tests, one of the most in-demand junior skill sets.
- Professional habits: clear bug reports, scoping work into small finishable pieces, and receiving code review.
- AI-assisted development: using AI coding tools responsibly inside a real codebase, with guardrails.
What We Are Looking For
- Currently enrolled student (high school or university).
- No programming experience needed. Genuinely zero is fine.
- Curiosity and persistence: you enjoy figuring out why something is broken.
- Care for detail: you notice the misaligned button others scroll past.
- Able to write clearly in English.
- Reliable: 2 hours/week during term is small, but we count on it.
- Own computer and stable internet connection.
Nice to have (not required): reading ability in French or Portuguese; any prior tinkering — a school project, a game mod, a spreadsheet formula you were proud of.
What We Offer
- Paid, flexible part-time work that adapts to your school calendar.
- One-on-one mentorship from an experienced developer.
- A pre-scoped task backlog, so you never waste your 2 hours wondering what to do.
- Real production experience on a live platform with real customers.
- A growth path from quality assurance to automated testing to code contributions, at your pace.
- A reference and a portfolio you can use for university applications or your first full-time job.
How to Apply
Use our online application form to answer three questions:
- Who are you and where are you studying?
- Describe something broken or badly designed that you noticed recently (a website, an app, anything) and how you would explain the problem to the person who could fix it.
- Why does this role interest you?
Question 2 is the real application: clear observation and clear writing are exactly the skills the job starts with. No CV required.
Selection process: short written application, a 30-minute video call, a small paid trial task (find and report three issues on our test environment), then an offer.
Ready to apply? Use our online application form to send us your answers to the three questions above.
