Enable disk usage monitoring on your VPS (QEMU Guest Agent)

Your myPandos dashboard can show live disk usage for your VPS — how full your server’s filesystems are — right on the server Overview page. This data is read from inside your VM by the QEMU Guest Agent, a tiny service that lets the virtualization platform ask your operating system about its filesystems. If the agent is not installed, the dashboard shows an “install the guest agent” notice instead of disk usage. Installing it takes under a minute.

Good to know: VPS created from our standard templates (Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky, AlmaLinux) already ship with the agent installed and enabled — no action needed. This guide is for servers installed manually or migrated from elsewhere.

Connect to your server over SSH and run:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y qemu-guest-agent
sudo systemctl enable --now qemu-guest-agent

Download and run the virtio-win guest tools installer from the official Fedora virtio-win repository (it bundles the QEMU Guest Agent service), then ensure the “QEMU Guest Agent” service is set to Automatic in services.msc.

Within a minute of starting the agent, open your server in the dashboard: the Overview page shows a Disk Usage card, and you can set disk-space alert thresholds under Monitoring. No reboot is required.
